Chatham County District 6 Commissioner Aaron “Adot” Whitely was appointed to three committee leadership positions for the National Association of Counties (NACo) during the NACo Annual Conference in New Orleans.

NACo President George Dunlap appointed Whitely as Vice Chair of the Community, Economic and Workforce Development Policy Steering Committee, Vice Chair of the International Economic Development Innovation Council, and Chairman of the Veterans and Military Services Advisory Council. Whitely was also appointed as the 2nd Vice Chairman of the National Democratic County Officials(NDCO).

NACo's policy steering committees cover the full array of domestic policy issues affecting county governments and local communities. These committees meet at least twice each year to review and make recommendations on public policy issues and legislation. The policy development process initiated by the steering committees is the foundation for the American County Platform, which drives NACo's advocacy work.

The Veterans and Military Services Advisory Council engages NACo and its members to develop and highlight county best practices and policies that promote innovative programs, services, and benefits for our nation’s military personnel, veterans, and their families.

The Community, Economic and Workforce Development Policy Steering Committee is made up of federal partners, national experts, and thought leaders, with the goal of discussing policy priorities and best practices in affordable housing, community revitalization, workforce development, and more.

NACo’s International Economic Development Innovation Council elevates trends and innovations in how counties are participating in the global economy. In addition, the Council advises NACo on the organization’s economic and workforce development programming.

The National Association of Counties supports and represents county governments across the United States, working to advance local priorities at the federal level. By connecting elected officials and professionals from counties nationwide, NACo helps shape public policy, promote innovation, and strengthen local leadership. Through its committees, initiatives, and collaborative efforts, NACo provides counties with tools and resources to improve services and effectively serve their communities.
