Chatham County was proud to stand alongside Live Oak Public Library to celebrate the opening of the Carnegie Library Heritage Center last Friday.

The reimagined Carnegie Library Heritage Center will protect and preserve Savannah’s rich tapestry of Black History through museum-quality exhibits, oral history recordings, and interactive displays.

Carnegie Library has always served as a beacon of knowledge, resilience, community service and empowerment for the Savannah community, both during segregation and after. Through the opening of the re-imagined Carnegie, Live Oak hopes to elevate the voices and lived experiences of Black Savannahians for years to come.

We hope the new vision for the space will foster meaningful connections between past and future generations, and ensure our shared history continues to inform and inspire Chatham County for years to come.

We look forward to hearing the reflections and oral histories our residents will contribute to Carnegie Library Heritage Center’s growing collection.
